During the United Nations General Assembly, Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, stirred controversy by calling for a ceasefire in Gaza while displaying what he believed to be the personal phone number of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. However, it turned out to be the contact number for the government call center in Gaza.
In response, Hamas retaliated by releasing Erdan’s actual phone number, exposing the ambassador to a barrage of insults, personal attacks, and threats against his family. Particularly alarming were threats originating from an Indonesian number, pledging to kill the ambassador and his family. This incident raises significant concerns about security and privacy in the midst of the already tense diplomatic situation.
The United Nations General Assembly had recently passed a resolution, with 153 members in favor, 10 against, and 23 abstentions, calling for a humanitarian ceasefire, the immediate release of all hostages, and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
